2020
Town Council Chambers Audiovisual Upgrades
Project Overview: As part of Bristol’s long-term Town Hall upgrades, this project includes various audiovisual upgrades to the Council Chambers including new presentation monitors, built-in high definition cameras, and microphones.

Town Hall Interior Upgrades
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Bristol Town Hall underwent interior renovations to improve the building’s safety and security. In addition to new physical barriers between staff and constituents, the Town also added high definition security cameras and a staff I.D. entry system.

Prudence Island Dock Repair
The Town of Bristol commissioned PARE Corporation to prepare engineering design plans to repair the north and south wall of the Prudence Island Ferry Dock.
In April 2018, the Town of Bristol secured a federal grant of approximately $1.2 Million from the Federal Transit Administration to repair the dock.

Independence Park Boardwalk & Seawall Repair
The Town of Bristol underwent a project to repair the boardwalk and seawall along the waterfront at Independence Park for safety purposes.

Trash & Recycling Automation
In 2020, Bristol’s Department of Public Works moved to automated trash & recycling collection. Every Bristol residence received two 65-gallon containers – one (1) blue container for recycling and one (1) green container for trash.
The move to automation decreases worker’s compensation claims, improves staff efficiency, and reduces trash/recycling cart theft.

2019
Tanyard Brook Culvert Replacement Phase II
The Tanyard Brook Culvert Replacement project began in 2002 when the Town commissioned a Watershed Study.
RI Department of Environmental Management approved Phase 2 in February 2017 after reviewing the Water Quality Certification Program Application Engineering Report, prepared by BETA Engineering.
In February 2018, the Town of Bristol received a grant of $1,799,078 from the Community Development Block Grant Disaster Relief Fund to support the project. Construction of Phase 2 began in the Fall of 2018.

Wayfinding Program
Town-wide wayfinding will include red, white, blue signage to direct visitors to points of interest and parking.
The Town of Bristol received a grant of $80,000 from Commerce RI in 2016 to support the Town’s efforts.

2018
Wood Street Streetscape Updates
The Town of Bristol received a grant of $42,855 from Commerce RI to improve the Wood Street Neighborhood.
The streetscape project includes the addition of bike racks, painted lamp post, decorative medallions, trash cans and recycling bins.
The Town of Bristol is working with SteelYard to design and fabricate the custom streetscape pieces.

Downtown Harbor Boardwalk
The Downtown Harbor Boardwalk created a new connection between Rockwell Park and State Street Dock, completing the missing link in the Bristol Boardwalk. The boardwalk begins at the Bristol Maritime Center and ends at Independence Park.
The Town of Bristol received a grant of $325,000 from Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management to support the project.

Legion Square – Loafer’s Corner
The Town of Bristol received a grant of $23,440 from Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management to improve the landscape/streetscape of Loafers Corner.
In 2017, the Town of Bristol went out to bid for the project. Da Ponte’s Landscaping Services Inc. was awarded the contract for service.

Bristol Maritime Center Renovations
In January 2018, the Town of Bristol received a $150,000 grant from the RI Historic Preservation & Heritage Commission to use toward making the final exterior structural improvement to the Bristol Maritime Center.
2017
Flood Awareness Signage
The Town of Bristol received a grant from the RI Emergency Management Agency and FEMA to design and install signs depicting historic flood events and make the public aware of potential danger areas during storms. Signs can be located throughout historic Downtown Bristol.

Prior Projects
Rhode Island Energy Challenge
The Town of Bristol partnered with SmartPower and National Grid to assist Bristol residents in finding ways to reduce energy use in their homes. This not only cut down on carbon dioxide emissions and created a healthier environment, it also reduces the energy bill of residents.
For acquiring 476 sign-ups, the Town of Bristol received a grant for $5000 to apply toward an energy efficient project in a public building.
