Bristol residents are required to register new dogs and dogs that are six (6) months or older with the Town Clerk’s Office.
Dog licenses are valid between May 1st and April 30th each year. License renewal occurs annually during the month of April.
How to Apply
Online
Bristol residents can request a new dog license or renew an existing license online.
The dog tag & certificate will be mailed directly to you.
In Person
Licenses can be requested at the Bristol Town Clerk’s Office (10 Court Street, Bristol, RI 02809) during normal business hours (Monday-Friday between 8:00 AM-4:00PM). Please bring a copy of your dog’s current rabies vaccination with you.
By Mail
Dog licenses are available by mail by providing a copy of proof of rabies vaccination, the owners contact information including name, address, phone number, and email address , a self-addressed stamped envelope, and a check in the amount of $6.00 made payable to the Town of Bristol and mailed to:

Dog Licensing Information
Fee: $6.00 Per Dog.
Documentation Required: A valid rabies certificate is required at the time of registration. The vaccination must be current and valid into the licensing year.
Animal Limit: No more than 3 dogs over the age of 6 months are allowed in any household before first obtaining a Kennel License from the Town.
Payment Types Accepted: Cash, Check, or Credit Card for in person applications. Credit Card only for online applications and Checks only for mail applications (made payable to: Town of Bristol).
Please Note: If your licensed dog has been re-homed or deceased, please notify the Town Clerk’s Office at 401-253-7000 ext. 132 to have the license removed from the Town’s records. Thank you.
