The Japan-America Society of Rhode Island will celebrate the 40th Annual Black Ships Festival, commemorating Commodore Matthew C. Perry establishing a trade route between the United States and Japan.
Friday, August 11
10 am – Rockwell Park, Thames Street, Bristol
Opening ceremonies, including flag raising, will take place at Bristol’s Rockwell Park
6:30 pm – Rockwell Park, Thames Street, Bristol
Soh Daiko Taiko drum performance, sponsored by the Town of Bristol Tourism and Baba Sushi restaurant.
Saturday, August 12
11 am – 3:30 pm – Independence Park, Thames Street, Bristol
The Black Ships Festival Cultural Fair will feature cultural entertainment, martial arts demonstration, food trucks, shopping, Little Hands Crafts, children’s cosplay costume contest, a performance by the Navy Band, dragon boat, and other activities!
