  • Fees are $30 for a Single family, Two family, and Three family residence
  • If inspection fails, and retest is required, the fee is $60 
  • Fee payable by check to the Bristol Fire Department
  • Certificate presented at completion of passed test and inspection which is valid for 120 Days

Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarms

Smoke alarms should be changed if they are 10 years old, or older, or do not have a recognizable date of manufacture. Batteries in smoke alarms should be changed annually. Carbon monoxide alarms should be changed if they are 7 years old, or older. Batteries in carbon monoxide alarms should also be changed annually.

Commercial Property Inspections

The frequency of inspections on property owners containing businesses and commercial properties are based on hazard classification, or particular license requirements. Some locations require annual inspections, however all properties are inspected every 3 years at a minimum. Business or commercial properties are anything except 1, 2, or 3 family homes, which have different requirements.

Property owners can contact the department to schedule an inspection, or the department will periodically request an inspection at any given property. There is no fee for the on site inspection, as it is more important to assist property owners in achieving the minimum level of fire safety required by the codes.
